Dr Alex George appointed as Youth Mental Health Ambassador by Prime Minister

Today during Children’s Mental Health Week, marks a huge step forward!

The Prime Minister has today appointed the amazing Dr. Alex George as a Youth Mental Health Ambassador. Alex will be working closely with the Government to advise and raise the profile of mental health education and well-being in schools.

Alex, an A&E doctor originally from Carmarthen, has passionately and tirelessly been campaigning for children’s mental health to be a priority since the tragic death of his younger brother Llŷr last year.

As a Youth Mental Health Ambassador, he will use his clinical expertise and personal experience to shape policy on improving support for young people in schools, colleges and universities.

In a post to his 1.7 million Instagram followers, Alex wrote: “Never has mental health been as important as now. From schools to universities, the NHS and the wider public, mental health matters.”
Thanks to his huge social media following among young people, Dr. Alex is well positioned to signpost the support that is already available.

Boris Johnson tweeted earlier today stating that “Young people have sacrificed so much during this pandemic and we are going to do everything we can to support them” after announcing Alex George as a Youth Mental Health Ambassador.

Congratulations to Dr Alex George. Let’s keep fighting to battle the stigma surrounding mental health. We are all behind you Alex!
